In Memoriam

Dear ERRS members,

With deep sorrow we would like to inform you that Dr Gabriel E. Pantelias, Emeritus Research Director at the National Centre for Scientific Research (NCSR) “Demokritos”, passed away on 18th May 2026.

He was an exceptional scientist, widely recognized for his pioneering contributions to the field of Radiation Research. In 2020 he was awarded the European Bacq and Alexander Award by the European Radiation Research Society in recognition of his lifelong research achievements in radiation biology and biodosimetry.

Gabriel was an inspiring teacher and mentor who generously shared his knowledge and pioneering work with PhD students and young researchers from all over the world.

Dr Gabriel Pantelias was a beloved person, a man of sincere humility and wholehearted generosity.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
