50th ERRS Meeting in Oslo

Coming back from Oslo, where the 50th ERRS meeting took place, the President of the ERRS, Siamak Haghdoost wanted to share with the community his thoughts:

📝 "This month, the European Radiation Research Society (ERRS) marked an important milestone - its 50th Annual Meeting, held in Oslo from 6-9 September 2026.

Fifty meetings. Five decades of scientific exchange, collaboration and friendship, tracing all the way back to the Society's founding in Brussels in 1959 by six scientists from six European countries.

The programme captured the full breadth of the field: molecular and cellular radiation effects and DNA damage; high-LET radiation and space research; emerging therapies such as FLASH, spatially fractionated radiotherapy and targeted radionuclide therapy; low-dose radiation and radiation protection; and new frontiers in AI, omics and big data.

A special highlight was the 2026 Bacq and Alexander Award, presented to Professor Klaus Rüdiger Trott in recognition of more than six decades of contributions to radiation biology.

A special thank you also goes to the European Space Agency (ESA), our sponsors and partners for their strong support of young researchers. At this meeting, two ESA travel grants and ten ERRS Young Investigator Awards supported early-career scientists and six poster prizes and additional travel awards supported by our sponsors helped recognise and encourage outstanding young researchers. These opportunities are an important investment in the next generation of radiation researchers and in the future of ERRS.

ERRS is grateful to the Local Organizing Committee, the Scientific Committee, the speakers, chairs, presenters, young investigators, partners and all participants who contributed to the success of the meeting. Their work and commitment made the 50th Annual Meeting a memorable occasion for the Society.

With Oslo behind us, ERRS now looks ahead: the International Congress for Radiation Research in Brno (2027), followed by Cluj (2028) and Montpellier (2029).

Fifty meetings are a remarkable achievement, made possible by the commitment of many people across generations. I am very grateful to all of you for being part of this journey and for helping us build the next chapter of ERRS together."

- Siamak Haghdoost, President of the ERRS
